Weinstein Lawyer Slams Gavin Newsom’s Wife, Calls Tryst With Hollywood Mogul ‘Consensual, Transactional’

The attorney for former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein slammed California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom’s wife in court Thursday, accusing her of lying about Weinstein in an “overly dramatized” performance.
Alan Jackson, representing Weinstein, asserted that Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who was referred to as “Jane Doe 4” for the case and worked as an actress in films and TV before marrying her husband, had agreed to “consensual, transactional sex” with his client.
“Regret is not the same thing as rape, and it’s important we make that distinction in this courtroom,” Jackson declared.
“I could tell he just needed, he was so determined, just so scary, just all about him and his pleasure, his need for satisfaction, so I just did it to make it stop,” Siebel Newsom had testified in court about Weinstein.
Jackson claimed that Siebel Newsom’s alleged “consensual, transactional sex” with Weinstein conflicted with her belief that she is a “successful, educated, well-bred, refined woman,” Variety reported. He also called her testimony a “theatrical, overly dramatized performance. What you saw was an act. A pretty good act, but it had no basis in truth.”
“It was almost like it was on cue, it was almost like it was rehearsed,” Jackson charged. “Just because she cried the hardest or yelled the loudest, it does not change any of the facts.”
Jackson presented the court with dozens of emails Siebel Newsom had sent to Weinstein after the alleged rape, many of which requested campaign contributions for her husband.
Jackson also contested Siebel Newsom’s testimony that she had occasionally run into Weinstein after the alleged assault and bumped into him at a 2007 film festival, leaving her “triggered.” Jackson presented an email in which Siebel Newsom sought a meeting with Weinstein.
In a 2021 interview with Dave Rubin, actress Rose McGowan, who launched one of the first rape accusations against Weinstein, claimed that Siebel Newsom had attempted to silence her vis-à-vis Weinstein. McGowan stated of Siebel Newsom, “She called me and she set up a meeting with me with me somewhere in Brentwood. And I actually went, and I like got very like, creeped out. And I saw here where I was supposed to meet her and I looked at her and I turned around and went back into my car and drove away. She wanted to meet me; she reached out to me.”
“This is about six months before The New York Times article on Weinstein that I set up broke,” McGowan continued. “And she called me on behalf of a Theranos board member, the long-time lawyer for Hillary and Bill Clinton and Weinstein, one David Boies. So this woman I don’t know, some blonde lady, cold-calls me, and is like, ‘David Boies wants to know what it would take to make you happy.’”
A spokesperson for Siebel Newsom asserted McGowan’s claims were a “complete fabrication.”
“Jennifer Siebel may be waiting for her big break in Hollywood, but in the hothouse world of San Francisco politics, she has already been cast — as Mayor Gavin Newsom’s leading lady,” the San Francisco Chronicle wrote in 2007.
