‘Pregnancy Is Not a Disease’: Pro-Life Groups Blast Biden Admin for Considering Abortion Public Health Emergency Declaration

Pro-life groups blasted the Biden administration for falsely treating pregnancy like a disease after Axios broke the news on Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is weighing the possibility of declaring a public health emergency over abortion.
“Biden’s abortion obsessed administration wants to basically declare Martial Law to take control of our society with the same health care regulations used to control Americans during the height of the COVID crisis. This is an abuse of a process that was created to SAVE lives, not end them,” President of Students for Life Action Kristan Hawkins said in a statement to Breitbart News.

“Even so, we saw how the regulations were abused, and used against Americans, when it really was a health issue being debated. But pregnancy is not a disease and it’s [sic] fake cure is not abortion,” Hawkins continued. “The best healthcare in the world should be used to see both mother and child safely cared for and loved. Violating people’s rights of conscience to push abortion in all 50 states using the thuggish tactics of Biden weaponized HHS and DOJ will be opposed with all our resources. We are already taking steps to address this.”
Axios’ Oriana Gonzalez spoke with HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, who told the outlet during “reproductive health access” events on Monday that “[t]here are discussions on a wide range of measures … that we can take to try to protect people’s rights.”

“There are certain criteria that you look for to be able to declare a public health emergency. That’s typically done by scientists and those that are professionals in those fields who will tell us whether we are in a state of emergency and based on that, I have the ability to make a declaration,” Becerra continued. He noted there has not been a “full assessment” of what a public health emergency declaration would like like but said there is “an evaluation” on the topic.
An HHS spokesperson also told the outlet that the agency is “constantly exploring additional actions” to “protect and expand” access to abortion, and is “prioritizing the actions that can give us the highest impact and most durable solutions.”
The comments came after both pro-abortion groups and Democrat lawmakers asked the HHS to declare an emergency in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and send the issue of abortion back to individual states. Lawmakers contended that declaring an emergency would allow the Biden administration to support pro-abortion states, send out Public Health Services Corps teams, and give the government “the ability to accelerate access to new medications authorized for abortions.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America said that “Democrats’ pro-abortion extremism knows no bounds.”
“They think allowing more Americans to be born is a crisis, and the only solution is ending those lives through abortion for any reason up until birth. Their latest scheme would result in taxpayer-funded abortion on demand across the country with no protections whatsoever for unborn children or their mothers – including dangerous mail-order abortion drugs that put women at risk of serious complications,” Dannenfelser said.

“If Democrats were truly concerned about women facing difficult circumstances, they would support the pregnancy centers which serve them and outnumber Planned Parenthood 14 to one nationwide. They would be in good company too, since 91 percent of Americans support this compassionate pro-life safety net,” she continued.
40 Days for Life’s CEO and President Shawn Carney told Breitbart News the Biden administration is “angry that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and they are taking that out on pro-life Americans.”
“Unfortunately, our massive defeat of the DOJ and the FBI’s abuse of power yesterday in federal court in Philadelphia will not stop the bigotry this administration has for Americans with a pro-life opinion,” Carney continued, referring to the Biden administration’s failed attempt to imprison Catholic pro-life activist Mark Houck.
“To say we are in an abortion emergency crisis is absurd, and no politician would’ve suggested that a year ago,” he continued.

In a phone call with Breitbart News on Tuesday, National Right to Life President Carol Tobias accused the Biden administration of “trying to kill as many babies as possible — as soon as possible.”
“The pro-life movement is stepping up with programs to help moms and babies, and all the Biden administration wants to do is end the lives of those babies. That’s not choice. That’s not an option for mothers,” Tobias continued.
She said the Biden administration would make such a move because it “will do absolutely anything and everything it can to undermine the pro-life laws that have been enacted.”
“The Supreme Court said the decision goes back to the people and the elected representatives, and the Biden administration does not want that. They want 50 states that allow abortion for all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason, and they would prefer tax dollars to pay for it. This is definitely an effort to undercut those laws that are on the books, protecting children and their moms,” she said.

Chicago Launches Effort to Score Jobs for Foreign H-1B Visa Workers Laid Off from Tech Industry

January 31, 2023 ConsFreedom 0

The city of Chicago, Illinois, in partnership with big business, is launching an effort to score jobs for foreign H-1B visa workers who have been laid off from their tech jobs in recent weeks.
The city’s World Business Chicago group, which is a public-private firm, has joined P33, the Chicago Chamber of Commerce, the Corporate Coalition of Chicago, and others to fill jobs at companies like Caterpillar, Illinois Tech, John Deere, Ulta Beauty, and Walgreens with foreign H-1B visa workers who have recently been laid off.

On average, about 1,600 tech workers are being laid off every day, with multinational corporations like Amazon, Google, Salesforce, Facebook, and Microsoft announcing employee cuts. A sizeable portion of these layoffs, an estimated 80,000, are foreign workers who arrived on H-1B and L-1 visas and who are now scrambling to stay in the United States.
Chicago is looking to help those foreign H-1B visa workers stay in the U.S. by landing them new tech jobs in the city.

“This initiative is a shining example of our city’s commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive destination for immigrants, where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated in our neighborhoods, further solidifying Chicago’s reputation as a premier global business hub,” Chicago’s Chief Marketing Officer Michael Fassnacht said in a statement.
A recent post from David North at the Center for Immigration Studies detailed how foreign H-1B visa workers may avoid ever leaving the U.S. — despite being laid off — thanks to the little-known Optional Practical Training (OPT) program:
What we are describing is a little-known program that saves employers 8 percent of payroll if they hire aliens have who graduated recently from a U.S. college or university, or who are currently enrolled in such an institution. No such subsidy goes to citizen college grads. [Emphasis added]

The attorney did not spell out the universal availability of this approach, in which the alien will seek a night-time or weekend master’s degree, perhaps a second or third one. He will not need a demanding school nor worry about any ceilings or government fees and may take courses that he has already taken before at some other institution. He can then get a federally subsidized job in the Optional Practical Training program for the duration of his schooling and for three years thereafter. [Emphasis added]

And employers will be interested because there are no labor standards in the OPT program, and the employer gets an 8 percent discount. The discount, never available to employers of citizen workers, comes because the employer of the OPT worker does not have to pay his share of the payroll taxes. Since these taxes support the Social Security, Medicare, and federal unemployment insurance programs, the OPT employer is being subsidized by the nation’s aging, sick, and unemployed workers — again something the press, whether here or in India, never mentions. (H-2B employers do pay these taxes.) [Emphasis added]
Meanwhile, laid-off Americans are hoping to score new jobs in the STEM fields even as their chances of landing such positions are diminished with the constant inflow of foreign workers whom companies often prefer to hire.
Tech investors, in recent weeks, have admitted that there is no labor shortage in the industry and, in fact, there is actually such a saturated labor market in the STEM fields that salaries could be drastically reduced without much pushback from employees.

The labor market for tech workers is partially inflated by a massive pool of foreign visa workers that are imported annually, mostly on H-1B visas, L-1 visas, and OPT visas to take coveted white-collar STEM jobs that would otherwise go to American graduates and professionals.
Every year, more than half a million American graduates enter the STEM workforce looking for high-paying jobs with good benefits packages. Their chances of landing such a job are cut significantly with the annual inflow of tens of thousands of foreign visa workers who will compete directly against them in the labor market.

White House Set to Release Budget March 9 — Over One Month Late

January 31, 2023 ConsFreedom 0

The Biden administration plans to submit the presidential budget request to Congress on March 9, over a month late.
According to a memo being circulated in the White House written by National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young ahead of President Joe Biden’s meeting with Speaker Kevin McCarthy, “Biden will release a budget on March 9” for the fiscal year 2024.

This means the presidential budget request to Congress will be about a month late since the Congressional Budget Act requires the president by law to submit his budget request to Congress by the first Monday in February — which lands this year on February 6.
Punchbowl News noted that there had been more than 20 instances over the last century where presidents have blown past the legally required deadline, and sources told the publication that Biden intends to continue that.

This would be the third consecutive year that the Biden administration failed to submit its budget request to Congress on time.
Presidents’ proposed budgets are typically seen as messaging documents for what the administration’s priorities are and more often than not are disregarded by lawmakers when passing funding bills through Congress.
The memo that Deese and Young wrote also stated,  “It is essential that Speaker McCarthy likewise commit to releasing a budget so that the American people can see how House Republicans plan to reduce the deficit … as well as how much their Budget will add to the deficit with tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and large corporations, as in their first bill this year.”
McCarthy responded to the memo in a statement on Tuesday, ahead of his meeting with Biden, writing: “Mr. President: I received your staff’s memo. I’m not interested in political games. I’m coming to negotiate for the American people.”

House Republicans have said in the past that they want to see deep cuts in the budget in exchange for raising the debt ceiling.
This all comes after Republican Study Committee (RSC) members sent a letter to Biden on Monday, pressing for answering on why he plans to miss the budget deadline for the third consecutive year, as the country is expected to hit its current debt limit soon.
“We write to express our concerns regarding reports that your administration may miss the statutory deadline for submitting a Presidential Budget to Congress for the third year in a row and has no intent to offer a balanced budget,” the group of Republicans wrote.
“As the deadline rapidly approaches for you to submit your Presidential Budget, we ask that you do your job so that we in Congress can begin ours,” the group added.

Joe Biden Voted Against Debt Ceiling Increase in 2006, Worrying About Deficits

January 31, 2023 ConsFreedom 0

Then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) voted against raising the debt ceiling in 2006, voicing concerns about the rapid increase in the debt under then-President George W. Bush.
On March 16, 2006, Senate Republicans voted to raise the debt ceiling, with Senate Democrats largely voting against the statutory limit of the country’s debt.
Then-Sen. Biden voted in lock step with Senate Democrats against this bill, which would raise the debt ceiling from $8.184 trillion to $8.965 trillion.

During his Senate floor speech explaining his vote against the debt ceiling increase, Biden lashed into then-President Bush, claiming Bush did not do enough to balance the budget or pay down the debt:
In the 5 years he has been in office, President Bush has added more to our foreign debt that the 42 Presidents before him. It took 224 years to accumulate $1 trillion of debt to other nations. It took President Bush just 5 years to more than double it.
Over $3 trillion in debt, foreign debt and debt held by Americans, has been piled up by this administration.
When he set out on the course that brought us to this sorry state, the President was clearly and repeatedly warned that massive tax cuts would leave us vulnerable to natural disasters, economic slowdown, or threats to our national security. “Don’t worry,” the President told us. “I know what I am doing.”
After 9/11, in the face of what he has himself called the moral equivalent of the World War II, or the Cold War, he insisted that while everything else had changed, he would not change his economic policies.
Facts had changed. His promise to balance the budget, his promise to pay down the debt, were proved to be false. [Emphasis added]
But he refused to take responsibility for his policies. He refused to admit that a changed world demanded a change of course.
His refusal has pushed us deeper and deeper into the hole. His refusal added $450 billion to the debt in 2002; it added $984 billion in 2003; it added $800 billion in 2004. And here we are again today, adding another $781 billion. With that addition, our national debt will be $8.6 trillion at the end of this year.
The President’s budget plans will bring that number to $11.8 trillion at the end of the next 5 years. This is a record of utter disregard for our Nation’s financial future. It is a record of indifference to the price our children and grandchildren will pay to redeem our debt when it comes due. History will not judge this record kindly.
Now, seventeen years later, it appears that Biden’s tune has changed about the need for structural reforms to resolve America’s debt crisis. The Biden White House and Senate Democrats have signaled that they do not want structural reforms to the federal government’s spending habits.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) predicted on Monday that Democrats would win the debt ceiling negotiations against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

The New York Democrat said, “No hostage-taking, no brinkmanship. Pass the debt ceiling.”

Twenty-four Senate Republicans on Monday wrote a letter to President Biden, calling on Biden to back spending reforms that would reduce the deficit.
“Americans are keenly aware that their government is not only failing to work for them – but actively working against them. We do not intend to vote for a debt-ceiling increase without structural reforms to address current and future fiscal realities and manage out-of-control government policies,” the Senate Republicans wrote.
